Book Blitz: TAD'S TREASURE by Shanna Hatfield

I've been fascinated with the Victorian and Edwardian eras, as well as the Old West as long as I can remember.
Growing up on a farm in Eastern Oregon where only the most determined and resolute individuals dare toil the soil that spent centuries covered in sagebrush, rock, and the random juniper tree, I never gave a thought to my great fortune in having a rural foundation on which to build my future.
All the crazy exploits I had as a girlie-girl being raised as a tomboy came in handy when I began writing western romances. You'd be surprised how many of the wild adventures in my stories are based on things I either experienced or witnessed during my formative years.
I joyfully bear the burden of being a hopeless romantic, with a bit of sarcasm thrown in for good measure. I've always been a sappy-hearted girl who loves a happy ending. I also love the western and rural way of life and that's why I began writing sweet and clean western romances.

Everything you never wanted to know about me is posted with frequency on my blog. There you'll discover I'm completely and entirely smitten with my husband, lovingly referred to as Captain Cavedweller. You'll also find that I eat too much chocolate, have a thing for roses, like to play with my camera, and enjoy researching the towns and eras for my romances set in the old west.

Tad Palmer makes a promise to his dying friend to watch over the man’s wife and child. Years later, he continues to keep an eye on Posey Jacobs and her precocious little boy. The only problem is that he’s not sure his heart can withstand the vow he made when he falls in love with the widow and her son.
Posey Jacobs misses her beloved husband, but her wrenching grief has given way to hope for the future as she finds herself falling deeper and deeper in love with Tad Palmer. However, the infuriating man doesn’t seem to notice her interest and treats her as he would his sister.

Throw in a goat who thinks she’s a dog, a town full of quirky characters, and this widow has her work cut out for her if she wants one handsome cowboy to give her his heart.

Top Ten List

1. Captain Cavedweller (my hubby... although technically he isn't a thing, he still tops my list of most favorite anything ever.)
2. Chocolate (Decadent and rich, please!)
3. Roses (Pink are my favorites.)
4. Music (I almost always have the radio on, and country is my fav.)
5. Old dishes (I am a dish addict and I admit it. I probably need to enroll in some sort of 12-step program, but I'd most likely just find an antique store on my way there and come home with another serving bowl or teacup.)
6. Sunsets (They are so, so pretty in our little corner of the world.)
7. Homemade bread (Warm from the oven, scenting the whole house with that mouth-watering yeasty scent.)
8. Quilts (I have several that I view as cherished treasures, including the one I used on the cover of Tad's Treasure.)
9. Rodeos (I grew up on a farm with a die-hard cowboy brother. Rodeos are such fun for us and takes me back to the summers of my childhood.)

10. Books (My love of reading started in my childhood. I love books and all the fascinating, amazing places I've traveled between the pages of a great story.)

Today's Wednesday Wonders features
The Christmas Quandary, book five in the Hardman Holidays series,
by Shanna Hatfield which will release this Thursday, November 10!

christmas-quandary-coverHoliday surprises await two lonely hearts in Hardman… Tom Grove just needs to survive a month at home while he recovers from a work injury. How bad can it be to return to Hardman for the holiday season? He arrives to discover his middle-aged parents acting like newlyweds, the school in need of a teacher, and the girl of his dreams already engaged. After the loss of her parents and her fiancĂ© abandoning her to spend a year abroad, Lila Granger needs a change of scenery. She leaves her home in New York to spend a few months with relatives in Hardman, Oregon. The idea of stepping off the train into a place that gives her a true sense of coming home never entered her mind. Neither did the notion of falling in love with a man who clearly can’t wait to get away from the small town.

The Christmas Quandary is a sweet Victorian romance, full of laughter and heartwarming moments. And you can pre-order it now on Amazon

Excerpt:

Lila giggled as he pulled the sled down the street. Before either of them gave a conscious thought to their destination, he took her out to a small hill at the edge of town. At the top, he stopped and moved the sled into position. With a dramatic bow, he placed the leather strap in her hand then gave the sled a mighty shove. Amid much excited squealing, she sailed down the hill. When the sled upended in a snowbank at the bottom, she threw herself back in the snow and stared up at the winter sky, full of contentment.

The sound of crunching snow and Tom calling her name drew her attention to him as he raced down the hill. “Are you well, Lila? Did you break anything?” Worry laced his tone as he hurried toward her.  Rather than shout that she was fine, she closed her eyes and remained unmoving, wondering what he would do. His warmth encircled her as he dropped to his knees next to her and bent down, gently tapping her cheek with his left hand. “Lila, honey? Can you hear me? Lila?”

The endearment he used made a sweet, oozy warmth settle in her stomach while heat flooded through her entire body. Strange feelings, ones she’d never experienced, filled her until every part of her seemed keenly attuned to Tom.

“Lila? Please be okay? Please?” He bent close and pressed his cheek to hers, slipping his arm beneath her and lifting her head and shoulders from the snow. As his scent tickled her nose with a pleasing aroma, she delighted in the experience of being wrapped in his arms.

Even with his heavy cast pressed against her back, she couldn’t think of anywhere she’d ever been that seemed more like home. “Lila?” His voice sounded more concerned as though he bordered on panic. Unable to continue her ruse, she popped open her eyes and grinned at him. “I’m fine, Tom. I was just teasing you.”

“You shouldn’t… that’s not…” He pulled back long enough to look deep in her eyes. Whatever he searched for, he must have found because he wasted no time in pressing his lips to hers, plundering her mouth with barely restrained passion.

Of course the girl of his dreams is already engaged...

Wednesday Wonders: BERTIE

This week's Wednesday Wonders features Bertie
by Shanna Hatfield

Bertie promo 2

 About the Book:

http://amzn.to/1ppWnEX She needs an adventure
He needs the warmth of her smile…
Bertie Hawkins survived a traumatic ordeal that stripped away her sunny outlook on life and left her afraid of every shadow. Terrorized and tired of reliving the past, she accepts an offer to change her situation. Although she only intends to work through the summer, the peace she finds at Nash’s Folly keeps her there every bit as much as her interest in a mysterious new ranch hand.
Desperate to escape his memories, Riley Walsh buys a run-down farm in Pendleton, Oregon. To pay for the many necessary repairs, he goes to work for his neighbor, never intending to fall in love with the effervescent girl who helps around the house.
Riley isn’t the only one enchanted with Bertie. His own crazy mule and the neighbor’s son both share his infatuation, driving him past the brink of jealousy.
A sweet romance that embraces the trials and triumphs of yesteryear, Bertie blends laugh-out-loud adventures with heartwarming moments.

Excerpt:

“I, um…” Bertie stopped a few feet away and scuffed the toe of her shoe in the dirt, stirring up little puffs of dust. “I owe you an apology, Mr. Walsh.”
Riley stopped fussing with Mud’s saddle and turned to stare at Bertie. “For what?”
“It was completely inappropriate for me to throw eggs at you yesterday. In addition, I failed to thank you for coming to my rescue. Left to my own defenses, I might still be sitting in the pen, surrounded by demented chickens intent on inflicting harm.”
He chuckled and shook his head. “I think you would have been just fine without my help.” His eyes trailed over her from head to toe then settled on her face. “I’m sorry I laughed, Miss Hawkins. I didn’t mean to hurt your feelings.”
Bertie didn’t know what to say to his sincere apology. She could tell it was earnest by the humble look on his face and the kindness in his eyes. “You’re forgiven, this time.” Bertie smiled and held out a square of fabric to him. “Unless I’m mistaken, this belongs to you.”
As he took his neckerchief from her hand, his fingers brushed across her open palm. They both drew in a startled breath at the jolt the touch created. Bertie raised her gaze to his. Her eyes were wide and luminous as surprise and something Riley refused to acknowledge shined in their depths.
Hastily, he stuffed the square into his pocket and nodded his head. “Thank you for returning it. Did you find the flowers?”
“I did. Daisies are my favorite.” Bertie took a step back, too aware of her interest in Riley Walsh. Too unsettled by what his handsome features and resonant voice did to her sensibilities. Around him, she felt like a tongue-tied ninny. Yet, at the same time, her thoughts lingered on how much she’d like to be held in his arms, taste his kisses. It was positively… indecent how frequently he’d invaded her thoughts in the last week.

Bertie is the sixth book in the Pendleton Petticoats series.

USA Today Bestselling Author Shanna Hatfield writes character-driven romances with relatable heroes and heroines. Her historical westerns have been described as “reminiscent of the era captured by Bonanza and The Virginian” while her contemporary works have been called “laugh-out-loud funny, and a little heart-pumping sexy without being explicit in any way.”

Animals as Characters

Animals are so fun to incorporate into stories. They have such unique personalities, and they can get away with a lot of shenanigans.
That’s why I get such a kick out of adding animals into my sweet romances.
In my new release, The Christmas Vow (Hardman Holidays, Book 4), Adam Guthry returns home to bury his best friend and his past, never expecting to fall in love with Tia Devereux, the woman who destroyed his heart.
Tia and her four-year-old son Toby come to Hardman for her grandmother’s funeral and stay. She’s a widow trying to create a new life for her son, so she moves into her grandmother’s empty house.
A white cat named Crabby keeps watch over them. Although he likes children, he’s not fond of adults, until Adam comes along.
However, Crabby keeps Adam in line when it comes to Tia.

Here’s a fun little excerpt from the story:

Tia screamed when a weight dropped onto her shoulder and bounced off her lap, using Adam’s head for a springboard before speeding off in a blur of white.

Startled, Adam jumped to his feet, dumping Tia onto the floor as he frantically reached for the pistol he’d left on the other end of the table. Sudden realization that their attacker was only Crabby forced a growl out of his throat. He set the pistol back down and ran a hand through his hair.

“I swear, Tia, I’m going to find that cat and turn it into a pair of fuzzy mittens!” Adam’s chest heaved as he glanced around, frustrated and angry the cat had disturbed their amorous interlude.

Tia sat on the floor, watching the impressive form of Adam’s chest rise and fall as the situation went from frightening to entirely humorous.

The hand she clapped over her mouth did nothing to stifle her giggles.
